JFS Expands Community Outreach with Mobile Sprinter Van

Since receiving a retrofitted sprinter van donated by the American Red Cross last summer, Jewish Family Service (JFS) has strengthened its presence throughout Atlantic County, bringing essential services directly to those in need.

Since mobilizing the on-wheels office in September 2024, JFS staff have attended community events distributing food and sharing information about agency programs and services. This mobile office has engaged more than 175 people including eight individuals who were referred to internal programs at JFS. During an outreach event, JFS staff provided COVID-19 vaccine education to 85 individuals and gave away testing kits to 30 people.

In January, the van served as a mobile outreach office during the annual Point in Time Count, an initiative where JFS staff and other social service organizations connect with individuals experiencing homelessness. This year, the van provided JFS with a highly visible and prominent presence in multiple locations throughout the city. More than 60 individuals visited the van to speak with JFS staff, receive food and clothing, and critical resource materials.

As part of JFS’ commitment to help combat food insecurity, the agency expanded food distribution efforts to bimonthly in Atlantic City at 26 South Pennsylvania Avenue. The van is used to transport larger quantities of food for distribution and also offers a safe, private space to speak with a JFS staff member and connect to additional support. Looking ahead, JFS staff is collaborating with the South Jersey Family Medical Center to have its mobile office on-site during their diaper distribution days to offer food and additional resources. The outreach van emphasizes JFS’ mission to provide accessible support and resources for people in need.
