“I was getting unsteady on my feet and was worried about falling and being stuck for hours or days with no one to help. JFS got me a Medical Alert system and now I can move about safely and know that help was always available.”

Holocaust Survivor Services
We are privileged to provide services to Holocaust Survivors in our community everyday. Our dedicated team provides kosher meals, care coordination, home health services, door-to-door transportation, and emergency assistance tailored to meet the unique needs of each survivor. Our specially trained staff is committed to supporting those who have endured acute loss, dislocation, and deprivation. Our mission is to ensure survivors spend their remaining years with the care and dignity they deserve. It is our responsibility, honor, and pleasure to care of every survivor.
Funding for these vital services is provided by Claims Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (“Claims Conference”), the New Jersey State Survivors Grant, KAVOD and private funders.
Our personalized support includes connecting survivors to essential services, acting as a liaison to family members and assisting with documentation, scheduling, paperwork, and benefits. JFS staff work diligently to ensure a safe and healthy living environment for each survivor.
Survivors receive transportation to the grocery store, medical appointments and other destinations. Our door-to-door, one-on-one rides are offered in clean, private agency vehicles with JFS employees, ensuring comfort, safety and reliability.
For Survivors living on a fixed income, unexpected emergency can cause significant hardship. JFS provides emergency assistance for needs such as dental care, accessibility ramp, medical alert system, home health care coverage, meals and more.
For Survivors requiring additional support, JFS links to external home health care services for assistance with daily tasks such as showering, dressing, meal preparation, eating and other activities that may no longer be manageable independently. For those eligible, external funding covers this support.
To keep survivors connected to the community, JFS offers approximately a dozen social and educational activities and events each month. These include healthy living workshops, exercise classes, technology seminars, lunch outings, and movie and book discussions, and trips to local events and shows. Additionally, monthly luncheons are held to bring together local survivors and their families to honor their shared experience.

“One survivor had difficulty paying her rent because her landlord dramatically increased her to nearly the amount of her monthly income. We were able to provide emergency rental assistance to keep her from being evicted and allowing her time to explore suitable alternate apartments that worked within her budget.”– JFS Case Manager
