JFS High Holidays Food Drive – More Than 400 Bags Collected to Stock the Pantry

As the elevated need for food continues in the region, members of Beth El Synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel, JCC Early Childhood, Jewish Federation of Atlantic & Cape May Counties, Lautman Family, Run for Their Lives of Ventnor/Margate/Longport, Shirat Hayam, Temple Beth Shalom, and Twist Pretzels & Ice Cream as well as community individuals, hosted High Holidays collections to support Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties (JFS).

The agency received more than 400 packed bags, equaling over 3,000 pounds of food, with many of the most requested products including peanut butter, jelly, hearty soups, canned tuna, cereal, sauce, rice, pasta, vegetables, and snacks.

Additionally, nearly 50 volunteers joined together to unload, weigh, and sort products – checking dates and inventory. They also stocked the agency’s mobile truck which provides guests with a new choice pantry system to select their preferred offerings. The mobile pantry travels to five different locations throughout Atlantic City every month.

“Each year, the generosity of the congregations and residents continue to inspire our agency. With the volume of products donated during the high holidays, our pantry is able to continue to serve thousands of people in the region,” said Andrea Steinberg, JFS Chief Executive Officer. “JFS remains a vital resource, providing both perishable and non-perishable hearty and nutritious food, to individuals and families in need.”

Also, with Thanksgiving around the corner, JFS is currently collecting essential holiday food items and monetary contributions. A $45 donation allows the agency to purchase a turkey and side dishes for a family’s holiday dinner. Food bags can also be donated with non-perishable items including macaroni & cheese, yams, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, string beans, and corn.

Turkey Drive donations can be mailed to: JFS, 607 North Jerome Avenue, Margate, NJ 08402 or made online at: www.jfsatlantic.org. Non-perishable food donations can be delivered to JFS. For more information on the mobile pantry locations, contact jfspantry@jfsatlantic.org.
