Join Thoughts from the Bookshelf Facilitator Pat Goldstein and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a book club gathering. This month, we will discuss the novel, Necessary Trouble: Growing Up at Mid-Century, by Drew Gilpin Faust, a New York Times bestseller. The book focuses on a conservative Southern family with the contradictions of a privileged upbringing against the backdrop of racial segregation, evolving social norms, and becoming an activist for Civil Rights. In addition, we will discuss the novel, In the Mighty Red, by Pulitzer Prize winning author Louise Erdrich. The book tells the story of love, spiritual yearnings and the tragic impact of natural forces of ordinary people living on beet farms in North Dakota’s Red River Valley. When a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson dupes a 93-year-old woman, she sets out on a treacherous quest to reclaim what is rightfully hers. Caregivers will participate in a support group led by a trained professional while their loved one enjoys music therapy. Light refreshments will be served.
