Thoughts from the Bookshelf

Tuesday, April 1 from 3pm to 4pm

Join Thoughts from the Bookshelf Facilitator Pat Goldstein and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a book club gathering. This month, we will discuss the novel, Life In a Jar: Living With Dyslexia, by Stephen Sutton. The story takes readers back to school in the ‘60s and ‘70s for a look at the lives of children with dyslexia as they suffered with the harsh reality of corporal punishment. The author provides a comparison to school life today and the help available to students with learning differences. In addition, we will discuss the novel, The Ladies’ Midnight Swimming Club, by Faith Hogan. The uplifting story brings together three women at different stages of life united by the chance to begin enjoying life to the fullest again. Israel Documentary and Discussion Brunch

Friday, April 4 from 10:30am to 12pm

Join us for candle lighting, challah, and brunch while watching short documentaries about modern Israel followed by a discussion of Middle East current events. Join Board of Jewish Education Executive Director Josh Cutler and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a pre-Passover fun-filled morning making Charosets to taste and take home. Village Film Society

Tuesday, April 8 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Village Film Enthusiast & Historic Cinematic Buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the Academy Award nominated motion picture, Conclave, starring Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow. The movie follows the ancient secretive events surrounding the selection of a new Pope. When powerful worldwide church leaders gather in the Vatican halls, a trail of secrets left in the beloved dead Pope’s wake could shake the church’s foundation. The movie is available on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango, Google Play Movies, Peacock, YouTube, and at Atlantic County Libraries. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends while supporting a local restaurant. This month, we will dine at Ozzie’s Luncheonette, 2401 Atlantic Avenue in Longport. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually. RSVP by April 8.

Your world in 60 minutes! Join a fast-paced discussion on neighborhood happenings, social topics, technology, world events, the arts, and more. Moderated by Village Community Specialist Tina Serota and Board of Jewish Education Executive Director Josh Cutler. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue, Margate. Memoir Workshop

Friday, April 18 from 10:30am to 12pm

Experience the thrill of capturing your life’s adventures, history, and ancestry with the Memoir Workshop led by award-winning author and Drexel University Director of Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing, Harriet Levin Millan. Learn about publishing your work. A laptop or pen and paper is needed for the workshop. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by April 16.

Coffee & Conversation Presents: Death & Divorce – Intersection of Life Changes with Retirement & Pension Benefits

Monday, April 28 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join us as we welcome Christopher Dagg, Senior Staff Attorney, Mid-Atlantic Pension Counseling Project, Brooklyn Legal Services NYC. Chris brings expertise on retirement and pensions, with a special emphasis on issues related to surviving or former spouses of retirees. Memory Connections

Monday, April 28 from 1pm to 2pm

Join us for a session with certified Music Therapist Karen Mellita. Designed for caregivers and the individuals they care for, this guided experience uses music-making and listening activities to reduce stress, enhance emotional expression, and promote relaxation. Memory Café: Ocean City

Tuesday, April 29 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Caregivers and their loved ones living with Dementia are invited to join Village and UMC representatives in a Dementia friendly space. Experience creativity and social connections through art, music, gentle movements, and more. Attend in-person at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Avenue, Ocean City. Brunch with Author Steven Ujifusa

Wednesday, April 30 from 10:30am to 12pm

Join Board of Jewish Education Executive Director Josh Cutler and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for brunch and an opportunity to learn about author Steven Ujifusa’s newest book, The Last Ships from Hamburg, a propulsive human drama that chronicles the 30 year mass exodus of Eastern European Jews in early 20th century and the men who made it possible. Fleeing discrimination and violence, many used trains and steamships to cross continents and an ocean. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue, Margate. RSVP by April 1.
