Thoughts from the Bookshelf

Join Thoughts from the Bookshelf Facilitator Pat Goldstein and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a book club gathering. This month, we will discuss the novel, Life In a Jar: Living With Dyslexia, by Stephen Sutton. The story takes readers back to school in the ‘60s and ‘70s for a look at the lives of children with dyslexia as they suffered with the harsh reality of corporal punishment. The author provides a comparison to school life today and the help available to students with learning differences. In addition, we will discuss the novel, The Ladies’ Midnight Swimming Club, by Faith Hogan. The uplifting story brings together three women at different stages of life united by the chance to begin enjoying life to the fullest again. Israel Documentary and Discussion Brunch

Join Village Film Enthusiast & Historic Cinematic Buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the Academy Award nominated motion picture, Conclave, starring Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow. The movie follows the ancient secretive events surrounding the selection of a new Pope. When powerful worldwide church leaders gather in the Vatican halls, a trail of secrets left in the beloved dead Pope’s wake could shake the church’s foundation. Brunch with Author Steven Ujifusa

Join Board of Jewish Education Executive Director Josh Cutler and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for brunch and an opportunity to learn about author Steven Ujifusa’s newest book, The Last Ships from Hamburg, a propulsive human drama that chronicles the 30 year mass exodus of Eastern European Jews in early 20th century and the men who made it possible. Fleeing discrimination and violence, many used trains and steamships to cross continents and an ocean. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue, Margate. RSVP by April 1.
