End of the Season Clean Your Cupboards: Summer Residents Can Donate Food Surplus to JFS

In shore communities, the end of the summer season occurs around Labor Day when residents and visitors dip their toes in the ocean one more time, purchase a few souvenirs, and clean out their cupboards. For those individuals and families who have a surplus of non-perishable foods, basic essentials, and baby products and prefer not to lug them back home, Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties (JFS) is the place for you.

At JFS, we will accept canned and boxed goods – peanut butter, jelly, cereal, tuna, vegetables, pasta, soups, snacks, and more – so we can keep the pantry shelves stocked. For your convenience, you may drop-off food at JFS, 607 N. Jerome Avenue, Margate, Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm.

From January through June of this year, the JFS Pantry distributed 350,560 pounds of food and basic essentials, including over 11,790 pounds of produce to 8,909 people, which includes 1,547 individuals who visited our agency pantry for the first-time.

“At JFS, our food security program provides nutritious, healthy food to individuals in need in our community,” said Andrea Steinberg, JFS Chief Executive Officer. “With people cleaning their cupboards at summer’s end and donating products to our agency, we can continue to meet the increased food demand in our region.”
