Autumn is a delightful time to enjoy cool breezes and fun programs with Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties (JFS). In October, we’ll showcase 10 entertaining, informative and thought-provoking programs through The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore. Plan to participate with friends, family and neighbors.

Positivity Project: Morning Refresh

Thursday, October 5 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Start your day in an upbeat way! Explore positivity with JFS Wellness Coordinator Mary Jean Arreola and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota. You’ll learn ways to boost wellness – mind, body and soul. Topics include self-care, mindfulness, gratitude, meditation and resiliency. RSVP by October 2.

Lunch Around Town

Friday, October 6 from 12pm to 1:30pm

Enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends while supporting a local restaurant. This month, we’ll dine at one of the area’s newest establishments, Provenza, 5001 Wellington Avenue in Ventnor. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually. RSVP by October 3.

Open Enrollment Medicare Seminar: Hybrid

Monday, October 9 from 10:30am to 11:30am

October begins the Medicare Open Enrollment Period. This is the one time per year seniors may make a change to their prescription or supplemental/advantage plans. Join Amanda Reese from Hafetz & Associates for a presentation about Medicare options. The workshop will feature details about Medicare Part A and Part B, Part C Advantage plans, Part D Prescription plans and supplemental coverage. Following the presentation, there will be a Q&A session. This workshop provides an opportunity to make sure everyone is knowledgeable about their Medicare plan, benefits, and the other choices available. The Village Film Society

Tuesday, October 10 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Village Film Enthusiast and Historic Cinematic Buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the movie, The Help, starring Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Emma Stone. The story centers around an aspiring author who, during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, decides to write a novel detailing African American maids point of view about the hardships experienced each day. Available on DVD from the Margate & Ventnor libraries or may be viewed on Prime Video, Google Play, Apple iTunes or streamed on Vudu. RSVP by October 7.

Memoir Workshop

Friday, October 13 from 10:30am to 12pm

Experience the thrill of capturing your life’s adventures, history, and ancestry with the Memoir Workshop led by award-winning author and Drexel University Director of Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing, Harriet Levin Millan. You will need a laptop or pen/paper for the workshop. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue in Margate or via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by October 10.

Comfort Cooking Light & Delicious: Early Fall Favorites

Tuesday, October 17 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Bernadette Getzler as she takes you on a food journey using farm fresh ingredients. You’ll learn to cook your favorite fall harvest recipes in new and inventive ways by taking existing ingredients and substituting healthier options. Learn to view comfort food in a whole new way! Positivity Project: Evening Retreat

Wednesday, October 18 from 7pm to 7:30pm

Join JFS Wellness Coordinator Mary Jean Arreola and Tina Serota for an evening retreat. Shed the cares of the day and prepare for a restful night. We’ll cover a wide range of topics including self-care, mindfulness, gratitude, meditation and resiliency. RSVP by October 16.

Coffee Klatch

Thursday, October 19 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Atlantic County Community Services Director Bridget Giblin, and Stockton University Professor of Criminal Justice and Dean of the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences Marissa Levy as they follow-up on the focus group discussion regarding violence in the community. Dean Levy will offer program details she manages using computer technology and statistics to track services and police activity in Atlantic City. She’ll highlight the benefits of partnerships to solve community issues. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue in Margate or via Zoom and a link will be emailed. Bus Trip to the Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage and Alliance Cemetery

Thursday, October 26 from 9am to 4pm

Enjoy a guided bus trip into the Jewish history of South Jersey. Travel to the historic sites of the Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage and Alliance Cemetery. Also, you’ll enjoy lunch at Larry’s II Restaurant where you can order off the menu and pay individually. Bus seats are $18 per person. Available on a first-come, first-served basis, so reserve your space today. The bus departs from the JCC, 501 North Jerome Avenue in Margate.

Community Breakfast Workshop

Tuesday, October 31 from 10:30am to 12pm

Join UMC Volunteer Coordinator Michele Musto and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a breakfast workshop featuring Shore Urgent Care Dr. John Kulin who will discuss updates regarding COVID, the flu and RSV. Dr. Kulin will share what to expect from the latest vaccines and how to best prepare for safe and healthy fall and winter seasons. Seating is limited. Attendees will enjoy a complimentary light breakfast. This program will be hosted at UMC The Shores Town Hall, 2201 Bay Avenue in Ocean City. RSVP by October 24.

The Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore is a membership program for adults age 50+. The program offers Grocery Shopping & Delivery, Intergenerational Events, Transportation, Kosher Meals on Wheels and more.
