Village by the Shore

Village by the Shore is a JFS initiative that provides services and socialization for adults 50+. From assessments to care management to counseling, the goal is to enhance their quality of life and help them maintain an independent lifestyle.  For more information visit the Village by the Shore website.

Services include:

Care Coordination / Family Guidance
Through comprehensive assessments, JFS helps families to develop a detailed action plan and recommendations for care. Services include assistance with transitioning from the hospital or to a new living situation, reviewing the plan of care, regular visits to check-in on status, and reporting to out-of-town family members.

Counseling / Life Transition
JFS offer emotional support, guidance and empathy to older adults who may be facing the stresses of aging and life transitions. Chronic illness, the loss of a loved one, retirement and relocation are all situations which can add up to feelings of depression, estrangement, and anxiety for seniors. A JFS counselor helps seniors recognize feelings, learn they are not alone and connect to resources to meet these challenges. JFS licensed clinical social workers provide confidential individual counseling to help seniors cope with health problems, loneliness and isolation, fears, bereavement and decreased sense of purpose.

Food Pantry
The JFS Food Pantry has non-perishable food items for seniors on fixed incomes, adults with disabilities, and others facing temporary crises.

Friendly Visitors
JFS volunteers and staff help to brighten the day of our area’s home-bound seniors by offering companionship with regular visits to their homes.

James Klinghoffer Nursing & Nutrition Program
The James Klinghoffer Nursing & Nutrition Program provides older adults a comprehensive support system in order to develop and maintain a healthy and balanced diet. The program also offers personalized shopping by preparing grocery lists, placing on-line orders, picking up and delivering groceries.

Medical / Diabetes Advocacy
This program helps seniors to navigate the healthcare system by optimizing medical visits and work closely with individuals in order to better understand the illness, ensure compliance and plan for follow-up care. The agency also provides a series of diabetes education workshops to provide helpful information promoting a healthy diabetic lifestyle.

Senior Transportation Assistance Program (STOP)
For seniors who do not have their own transportation and cannot utilize public transportation, the STOP program provides rides to JFS clients. STOP transports older adults to doctor appointments and other healthcare visits such as diagnostic testing appointments, lab testing and to the pharmacy for prescription pickup. The STOP program has been partially funded by Ocean City Home Foundation and the Pfizer Foundation.

Holocaust Survivor Services
JFS provides a subsidy for homecare and social service assistance to eligible Holocaust survivors. Survivor activities include monthly luncheons, guest speakers, intergenerational events and trips. This program is conducted with support from The Conference for Material Claims Against Germany and trip expenses by the Ruth & David Zinman Fund. Hospitality Services at Shalom JFS provides homecare and housekeeping services to residents of Shalom House. An on-site social worker provides assessments, information, referral and social service coordination to the building’s residents.

Kosher Meals-on-Wheels
Easy-to-prepare meals are delivered on a weekly basis to seniors living in our community. This program is a collaborative between the Seashore Gardens Living Center, Beron Jewish Older Adult Services (JOAS) and JFS. The frozen meals assure that older adults receive nourishment and meal variety as well as social interaction with delivery volunteers.
