Hospice
Jewish tradition has great wisdom to help us preserve dignity and loving comfort through the end of life. In Atlantic County, we are blessed with many wonderful hospice programs providing comfort (palliative) care as well as pain management to those at the end of life. Feeling that there was a need for an identifiably Jewish program, JFS has introduced Jewish Hospice Connections through which Jewish Family Service seeks to bring a local hospice program with Jewish spiritual support to those in need of such assistance. This program will help us meet the dying patients’ and their families’ needs with the Jewish vision of healing, r’fuat hanefesh and r’fuat haguf, healing of the spirit and healing of the body. Hospice care is of the whole person—body, emotions and spiritual life. When cure is no longer a possibility, hospice creates the opportunity for patient and family to use the remaining time meaningfully.
JFS needs volunteers for the Jewish Hospice Connections program. We are looking for people to help bring our traditions, wisdom, integrity, sacred text, spiritual insight to those in need of this local hospice program to provide the age-old Jewish concept of chesed, kindness.
