JFS Launches Community Exchange Website - www.jfsatlantic.org/community

Jewish Family Service is embracing the Freecycle™ movement with the introduction of a new webpage – the JFS Community Exchange. The page will be used to match unused items with people in need. In addition to reducing waste and easing strain on our local landfills, it strengthens the community through a renewed sense of giving. This exchange program is not only a place to give of your goods, but also of your time.

The Community Exchanges encourages people to “Donate Your Goods” explaining that your unused kitchen table will provide a place for a family to eat together. People who visit the site can fill out a form with specific fields to describe an item they wish to donate (bed, crib, toys, etc), upload a photo and place it in a category so it can be searched and matched with a client’s needs. With this initiative and community action, JFS hopes to meet needs beyond that of JFS clients. If an item is not matched, JFS will offer other community resources to place/donate items. Once the item has a found a home, arrangements will be made for pickup and delivery to the person or family.

The second aspect of the Community Exchange website focuses on those who are looking to donate their time. For those looking to volunteer fulfill hours or participate in a bar/bat mitzvah program, this section lists major JFS initiatives where community support is needed. Whether assisting with our annual House Tour or helping to stock the food pantry, there is a volunteer opportunity to fit each individual’s desire.

Jewish Family Service serves more than 3,000 local individuals per year through a variety of services. The JFS Community Exchange is a way for individuals and families to support the agency without offering a financial donation. Whether donating your time or unused items, JFS invites you to make a difference for thousands living in Atlantic and Cape May Counties. To donate an item or volunteer your time, visit www.jfsatlantic.org/community.  For more information about Jewish Family Service and its programs, please call 609-822-1108.
