JFS HELP HOMELESS AS PART OF POINT IN TIME SURVEY
Posted on January 27, 2011
JFS case managers and volunteers took part in annual Point in Time surveys on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. The Project Homeless Connect outreach is part of an annual count that looks to tally the total number of homeless people across the country.
Beth Judah’s Women Power collected 540 pairs of socks in preparation for the day of outreach. Thanks to their donations, JFS was able to offer winter essentials to hundreds in need. Beginning as early as 3 a.m., JFS representatives helped distribute clothing, hats, coats, socks and gloves to individuals living without shelter throughout Atlantic County. In addition, the ladies, organized by Emily Weiss purchased 480 pairs of woolen gloves for JFS clients.
In total, approximately 500 surveys were completed enabling officials to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the state of homelessness in Atlantic County and New Jersey.
Jewish Family Service serves 3,000 local individuals per year through a variety of services. Responding to the needs of the community, JFS offers counseling, case management, and an array of other services including family and children’s programs, older adult assistance, autism support, Kosher Meals-on-Wheels, a community food pantry and diabetes advocacy.
Jewish Family Service is still collecting new coats, hats, scarves, gloves and socks. For more information, please contact 609-822-1108 or visit the Community Exchange page.
