JFS Employee Delivers Hats to Israeli Soldiers/Israeli Need for Eyeglass Frames Prompts JFS Drive
Posted on March 16, 2010
Two employees from Jewish Family Service recently participated in a two-week mission to Prague and Israel to form professional relationships and make a special delivery to Israeli soldiers. This Jewish Federation mission pilgrimage, entitled “Mission Possible”, consisted of 35 members of the local community including Naomi Jones, Director of Clinical & Intake Services, and Mara Vasslides, Congregate Housing Service Program Coordinator of Jewish Family Service.
While in Tel Aviv, the “Mission Possible” participants delivered 166 winter black hats that were knit by Theresa Engel, of Ventnor, for the Israeli soldiers.
During the visit, Jewish Family Service became aware of a great need for eyeglass frames. When asked, the majority of seniors said they would be most grateful for the ability to see. Israeli older adults are able to get lenses; however, they are unable to obtain the frame, so many are living without the ability to see.
To help those living without this basic necessity, JFS is holding an eyeglass frames drive from April through May. The agency asks anyone who has any frames to please drop them off at the front desk of the Jewish Family Service office located at 607 N. Jerome Avenue in Margate. Frame donations can be made between 8 am and 6 pm Monday through Friday from April 5 until May 28, 2010. Following the drive’s completion, JFS will send any collected frames to those in need in Israel.
