JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE HOSTS HIGH HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE

Jewish Family Service is holding its Annual High Holiday Food Drive to collect essential non-perishable items to restock the agency’s on-site community food pantry.  The food drive, collaboration between the JFS and area synagogues, will run from September 28th through October 9th.

Canned goods and other nonperishable food items can be dropped off at the following collection locations: Beth El, Beth Judah, Beth Israel, Emeth Shalom and Beth Shalom as well as the Jewish Family Service office on Jerome Ave.

“Thanks to the help of our local synagogues and community members, JFS collected more than 800 bags of non-perishable food last year,” said Executive Director Andrea Steinberg. “Each year this food drive allows JFS to restock our pantry and enables us to provide meals for hundreds of individuals and families living in our community.”

During the high holidays, JFS turns to our community to come together to show support for those who are in need.  The food drive donations make a difference in the lives of our recipients, which include elderly individuals and couples, single-parent families, people who are ill, and those who have been impacted by recent unemployment or major medical problems.

Jewish Family Service accepts donations throughout the year.  The agency is in constant need of jars of peanut butter, bags of pasta and cans of hearty soup.  All donations should be unopened and properly sealed. Food must meet the expiration and “use by” dates in order to be distributed to the community. Lower sugar and lower salt items are needed due to the growing senior client population and clients with special dietary needs.

JFS is looking for volunteers to assist with collecting the donations from the various drop-off locations on October 10th, as well as assistance to sort donations and restock our pantry on October 11th at Jewish Family Service.

If you have a question regarding the Jewish Family Service High Holiday Food Drive or how you can assist, please contact our Community Initiatives Coordinator, Leigh Turner at 609-822-1108 or email. Jewish Family Service also encourages community members to host their own Food Drives throughout the year. Visit the JFS Community Exchange website for ways to give throughout the year.
