American Conference on Diversity Honors JFS with the Humanitarian of the Year Award

Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties (JFS) was honored as one of the recipients of the prestigious 2010 Humanitarian of the Year Award presented by the Atlantic County Chapter of the American Conference on Diversity.

Each year, the American Conference on Diversity chapters recognize local individuals, companies and organizations for reflecting the mission to value diversity, educate leaders and promote respect in schools, workplaces and communities. The American Conference on Diversity works with NJ’s youth and the state’s community, corporate, faith and governmental constituencies and has been recognized as a leading force for positive change. JFS has been chosen as an award recipient for its contributions to advance human relations and improve the quality of life for citizenry in the Atlantic County area.

JFS Executive Director Andrea Steinberg, LCSW, and Board President Eric Wood, Esq., accepted the 2010 Humanitarian of the Year Award on behalf of the agency on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Atlantic City Country Club.  Boardwalk Empire author Nelson Johnson was the keynote speaker at the event.

“Diversity is not a small aspect of our culture at JFS, it’s critical to our success. We nurture it, celebrate it, and welcome the fresh perspectives that strengthen our organization and community as a result,” explained JFS Director of Human Resources Lisa Witkowski, SPHR, who wrote the award-winning nomination.

A nonsectarian, nonprofit organization, JFS provides services to individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds. In keeping with the Jewish value of tikkun olam (healing the world), JFS is committed to providing services to the entire community regardless of age, race, religion, ethnicity, handicap/disability, veteran's status, or sexual orientation.

The agency employs more than 75 staff in 17 service programs. Responding to the needs of the community, JFS offers counseling, case management, and an array of other services including family and children’s programs, older adult assistance, autism support, Kosher Meals-on-Wheels, a community food pantry and diabetes advocacy.   For more information about the agency’s programs, workshops and services, please contact Jewish Family Service at 609-822-1108 or visit www.jfsatlantic.org.
