Be a Friend of JFS

Posted on April 19, 2019

Hello Friend,

Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties was able to make a difference in the lives of more than 8,000 individuals and families throughout the current year. That achievement was possible because of you, our JFS Friend.

However, the need for assistance by residents in our community continues to grow. That’s why, with just a few weeks remaining in the year, we’re hoping you would make a donation to the JFS Friends Campaign.  We’re less than $5,000 from reaching our 2019 goal and your generous contribution will enable us to achieve it.

Every dollar helps us to assist those who need it the most. It may be your neighbor, family member or friend. Thank you, and from our JFS family to yours, we wish you a wonderful holiday and a happy, healthy New Year.

Please donate online today.

Sincerely,

Johanna Perskie, President    &      Andrea Steinberg, Chief Executive Officer

Meet Sarah. As the Human Resources Manager for a women’s clothing business, she was just three years shy of retirement and excited for the future. Sarah’s life revolved around her career, but after celebrating 22 years with the company, the unthinkable happened. The store filed for bankruptcy and Sarah lost her job. At 59-years-old, she would have to start over. As the months wore on, and with no job prospects in sight, Sarah grew anxious. Her savings were quickly dwindling and by the winter she wouldn’t be able to pay her mortgage. Sarah needed help.

While looking through the paper for job posts, Sarah saw a story about JFS and decided to call. Following her initial visit with Yessie, a JFS Case Manager, Sarah soon had her hands full – one with a bag of food from the Pantry and the other with a list of area resources. That first visit helped her immediate needs, but Sarah was still worried about her future. With Yessie’s help, she started weekly meetings with a counselor to focus on long-term goals and budgeting.

Now Sarah spends her days working from home, consulting for a large shipping company. She continues to utilize JFS counseling services as she adapts to her new lifestyle. Sarah’s resume has also added another new entry – volunteer. As a way to give back to JFS, she supports Village by the Shore members by delivering groceries every other Tuesday.
