Posted on September 11, 2017

OceanFirst Foundation is proud to support Jewish Family Service (JFS) as a community partner in 2017. As a Chai Sponsor of the agency, the Foundation granted $20,000 to JFS. These funds will be used for Village by the Shore, a program that provides a variety of concierge, professional and volunteer services and socialization for those age 50+.

“We welcome OceanFirst Foundation to our region and look forward to our partnership to strengthen our community together,” said Andrea Steinberg, JFS CEO. “This generous funding allows JFS to help adults and older adults with essential services like care coordination, transportation and meal delivery.”

Village by the Shore, a membership based network of community dwelling adults (50 and over) combines professional and volunteer driven services, with the broader goal of helping members maintain independent lifestyles in their own community. By providing an array of volunteer and professional services and supports, the Village model is a multifaceted program that allows older adults to not only age in place, but also reduce chronic conditions and hospitalizations, which can ultimately lead to deteriorating health, long term hospitalization, and assisted living facilities.

Since its founding in 1902, OceanFirst Bank has built a solid reputation and legacy as a good neighbor and responsible corporate citizen. The Bank’s strong commitment to helping families, organizations, schools and communities throughout central and southern New Jersey meet their financial needs has spanned several generations reaching new heights in 1996 with the creation of OceanFirst Foundation.

Made possible by a one-time endowment of $13.4 million approved by OceanFirst Bank depositors, OceanFirst Foundation provides grants to organizations that meet community needs within the OceanFirst Bank footprint. Through the Foundation, hundreds of local charities and schools have received more than $32 million in grants to enrich lives in areas such as Housing, Youth Development and Education, Improving the Quality of Life, Health and Wellness, and the Arts.

“OceanFirst Foundation is pleased to provide a grant to JFS to support the Village by the Shore program. Our neighbors who are 50+ will certainly benefit from these essential and supportive services that help them stay healthy, strong and connected to the community”, said Kathy Durante, OceanFirst Foundation Executive Director.

With the support of many generous donors, like OceanFirst Foundation, Jewish Family Service serves more than 8,500 local individuals per year through a variety of services.  Responding to the needs of the community, JFS offers counseling, case management, and an array of other services including family and children’s programs, older adult assistance, autism support, Kosher Meals-on-Wheels, a community food pantry and diabetes advocacy.
