The Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce its continued support of Jewish Family Service (JFS) by granting the agency $4,000 for its transportation services. JFS provides direct door-to-door transportation for residents throughout Atlantic County.
“There are many seniors in our area who depend on others for transportation, and as our population ages, that number will likely increase substantially,” said Jean Jacobson, President of the Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation. “We’re pleased to help Jewish Family Service offer safe, reliable, accessible transportation which is a crucial component of independent living.”
JFS transportation services are part of the agency’s program which provides concierge, volunteer and professional services and socialization to adults (50+) in the community. A personal driver picks up riders at their home, accompanies them in and out of their destination, and returns each individual safely home. Common destinations are medical appointments, grocery stores, rehabilitation centers and pharmacies.
“Traditional travel modes such as public transportation or taxi get riders from point A to B but they might not adequately meet the needs and support the limitations of our older adult community members,” said Andrea Steinberg, Chief Executive Officer of JFS. “With the expansion of , we are expecting an increase in rides for 2016. JFS appreciates the Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation and its support of the important services in our community.”
Ocean City Home Charitable Foundation has been a long-time supporter of the agency. In addition to funding JFS transportation services, The Foundation sponsors agency events including House Tour and Golf Tournament as well as the JFS Food Pantry throughout the year. The branches collect both monetary and food donations for the Holiday Food Drive and host a dress down day where employees make donations to the pantry in exchange for casual work attire. As a Chai Donor of the agency, the Foundation has supported the transportation program since 2008 with funding totaling $21,500.
