#JFSFeedsFamilies - Turkey Drive Extended through December
Posted on November 24, 2014
Thanks to the support of our community, Jewish Family Service will feed hundreds of local families this Thanksgiving. With so many community members out of work due to the Atlantic City casino closures, this year’s Turkey Drive was more important than ever. Throughout November, JFS collected monetary contributions as well as non-perishable food items to provide meals to individuals and families in need.
The JFS Turkey Drive had the generous support of nearly 100 community members who donated to the drive. James Klinghoffer generously donated $25,000 to benefit the Turkey Drive and the James Klinghoffer Nursing and Nutrition program. Businesses, organizations and groups such as Ocean City Home Bank, City of Margate, Casino Control Commission, Marketplace Realty, Community Hebrew School, Scout Clothing & Decor, Chestnut Hill College and Kulanu, among others, hosted collections to help put turkey on the table this Thanksgiving.
JFS held a food drive at the ACME in Somers Point on November 13th where generous customers donated 25 full bags of holiday essentials with each bag providing the side dishes for a local family this holiday season.
Steve & Cookie’s By the Bay has once again generously offered to donate proceeds from Thanksgiving Day dinners to help the agency feed families throughout the holidays.
The needs of the community are so great that JFS extended the holiday food collection through the end of December. This will provide meals to families throughout the holiday and winter months. Farley & Ferry Realty (Ventnor) and The Bee Well Boutique & Spa (Linwood) will be collecting donations throughout December.
“With economic hardship facing so many in our community, our food pantry is seeing a significant increase over last year,” said Andrea Steinberg, Chief Executive Officer of JFS. “It is great to see so many community members and businesses join this effort and help feed families not only for Thanksgiving but throughout the winter.”
Jewish Family Service accepts non-perishable food donations throughout the year. Monetary donations can also be made online or mailed to JFS, 607 North Jerome Avenue, Margate.
