“Israel Meets Margate” Chef’s Dinner Supports JFS Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle Initiative

Posted on November 22, 2013

More than 50 guests gathered at Steve & Cookie’s by the Bay on November 19th for “Israel Meets Margate” Chef’s Dinner raising nearly $1,000 for Jewish Family Service of Atlantic and Cape May Counties (JFS) Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle Initiative.

The sold-out market basket meal, created by Israeli Guest Chefs Nir Margalith and Guy Maromalong with Steve & Cookie’s Chef Kevin Kelly, showcased a fresh local menu paired with fine Israeli wines.  Matt Bruckler from Jah's Creation generously donated the fresh produce for the event.  It was a wonderful opportunity for guests to enjoy a specialty dinner while also supporting JFS.

“The combination of delightful Israeli inspired dishes made with fresh local ingredients, along with all the interesting guests, truly made this a wonderful evening to experience,” said event hostess Cookie Till, owner of Steve and Cookie’s by the Bay. “It was a great night and I look forward to partnering with JFS for more unique events in the future.”

JFS is embracing the vision of building healthy communities by expanding and evolving its Wellness and Healthy Lifestyle Initiative. In 2011, the agency partnered with AtlantiCare Foundation, Cookie Till and Garden Goddess by the Sea, Liz Donaghy to build and plant a Community Garden in Hammonton. Since then, JFS has expanded its services to promote wellness and healthy lifestyles through ongoing workshops, programs and events. The agency’s goal is to promote and educate about sustainable, healthy lifestyle options to all community members.

“Israel Meets Margate was a unique, fun event that highlighted some of the area’s wonderful fresh foods,” said Andrea Steinberg, JFS Executive Director. “We are so thankful to Cookie Till for hosting this event and for continually putting a spotlight on the agency’s work.”

This Thanksgiving, Cookie Till has also offered to donate a portion of the restaurant’s Thanksgiving proceeds to benefit JFS. This funding will provide non-perishable food essentials and meals throughout the holiday season.
