History
Jewish Family Service (JFS) is a 501c3 non-profit agency, founded in the early 1900’s as a volunteer organization that provided services to refugees, the elderly, and the poor. Founded by Cele Cassman and Sara Singer, in its early days, JFS was created as a source of help and hope. JFS has grown from a small, storefront operation, formally incorporated in 1976, to an $11.8 million multi-service organization that provides support and care throughout Atlantic and Cape May Counties. For more than 80 years, JFS has been providing health, career and human services to enhance the well-being of individuals and families of all ages, faiths, cultures and lifestyles.

Today, the agency provides an array of social services and programs designed to meet the contemporary needs of individuals and families. A professional staff of more than 150 highly-qualified employees help individuals to reach their full potential in a setting which balances traditional values with personal needs and goals.

JFS is a constituent of the Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties and a partner agency with United Way of Greater Philadelphia and South New Jersey. Jewish Family Service is a member of the Association of Jewish Family & Children’s Agencies (AJFCA) and the New Jersey Association of Mental Health Agencies (NJAMHA). The agency is licensed by the New Jersey Division of Mental Health Services.

​A Community Partner

Today, JFS partners with many community organizations as well as state and county agencies. In addition, JFS is a constituent of the Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties and a partner agency with United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey in Atlantic County. Jewish Family Service is a member of the Association of Jewish Family & Children’s Agencies (AJFCA) and the New Jersey Association of Mental Health Agencies (NJAMHA).

An Extended Family

A nonsectarian, nonprofit organization, JFS provides services to individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds. The social workers and volunteers are like an extended family to many of the isolated individuals we serve. Responding to the needs of the community, JFS offers counseling, case management, and an array of other services that help constituents to successfully address a broad range of issues.
